A burger with large fries and a coke equals a great, economical, tasty and full meal, doesn’t it? More often than not, we find ourselves in the midst of the aromas of junk food, sitting comfortably in a fast food chain restaurant gorging on the flavours of those spellbindingly tasty, extremely mouth-watering, lip smacking appetizing and scrumptious food items. The pleasure of the first bite is indescribable, it feels like a gourmet kitchen blast inside the mouth and the taste buds dance like the peacock in monsoon. Now, with all the dreams that you are having about your favourite chicken burger, lets strike you with the ground reality of the food on your plate.
The guilty pleasures you have are nothing but entirely human and there is no harm in succumbing to them once in a while. But, feeding insanely only on unhealthy food, sure has consequences. Ever heard about the word obesity? Sure you have, and that is what you are and if not, will be in a while if you continue with those eating habits. Don’t get offended while you read this, it is important for you to understand that obesity is a bigger part of the problem than anything else and you are indirectly contributing to it.
Being obese or overweight are key risk factors in the development of various chronic heart and respiratory diseases, diabetes, hypertension, some cancers and even early death.
What exactly is obesity?
Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health, says Wikipedia. The underlying principle behind obesity is that the calorie intake has increased with the calorie expenditure reducing or being the same. The first measure of obesity can be done with Body Mass Index or BMI.
What should be done to cure obesity and prevent all the problems that tag along?
The first thing to do is to change your eating habits. The one thing that directly affects your health the food you eat and it is rightly said that ‘What you eat is what you become’.
Now, inculcating healthy eating habits is not that easy and your food pattern cannot change drastically, but there is hack to it. You can eat what you like and still be healthy. The only change that you have to make to your diet is to use the best cooking oil for health. Confused, aren’t you? If we tell you can still have those fries but instead of your regular oil, you should eat the ones made in olive oil, what would you say to it? Olive oil is an ingredient being used from the past few hundred years by the Mediterranean’s. The benefits it serves work wonders for the body and helps keep your weight in control along with other diseases.
Olive oil cooking benefits are multitudinous and one can only wonder how to harness all of them together. It adds flavour to whatever food you cook. Also, being rich in good fat content, it does not let fat accumulate in the body and keeps various diseases at bay.
